New Zealand Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs (BMSB) season

MPI is committed to safeguarding New Zealand from the Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs (BMSB) threat during the BMSB risk season. They focus on risk goods that are likely to be infested with these stink bugs under two specific Import Health Standards:

  1. The Import Health Standard for Sea Containers from all Countries (IHS for SEACO)
    Link: IHS for SEACO
  1. The Import Health Standard for Vehicles, Machinery, and Parts (IHS for VMP)
    Link: IHS for VMP

Please note that these BMSB measures are enforced only during the BMSB risk season, which applies to risk goods exported from risk countries to New Zealand on or after September 1, 2022, and arriving in NZ on or before April 30, 2023. Outside of this specific timeframe, MPI does not enforce these requirements.

Offshore Treatment Providers

For those seeking offshore treatment options, you can find a list of approved offshore treatment providers on the Australian Department of Agriculture's website. Importantly, the treatment provider does not necessarily have to be from the country of origin. You have the flexibility to choose any approved offshore treatment provider, even if it's located in a different country, such as Singapore. The crucial factor is ensuring that the cargo is treated before it reaches New Zealand.

General Information

It's important to be aware of the general requirements for all risk goods imported into New Zealand. These goods must be free of biosecurity contaminants and regulated pests and are subject to inspection upon arrival.

Stay Informed

Any changes to the BMSB measures in New Zealand will be promptly published on the MPI website. To ensure you have the latest information regarding Brown Marmorated Stink Bug requirements, please visit the MPI website at the following link: MPI BMSB Requirements.
